A team of German scientists have created record-setting Wi-Fi that sends data at 100 Gigabit per second. This technology was developed by a team from the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). This is like Google-Fiber but 100 times better.
100 gigabits of data per second is transmitted at a frequency of 237.5 GHz in the laboratory over a distance of 20m. Data rates of 40 gigabits per second is achieved in the previous experiments at a distance of more than 1Km. Scientist developed a photonic method at the transmitter which sends the data at the outstandingly high speed. And at the receiver end the fully integrated electronic circuits were used in the receiver.
Within 2 seconds, you can transmit the whole Blu-Ray data at the 100 gigabits per second speed. You can just patch the holes in the older fiber lines to set up this new version where the cost factor is an issue or to lay down the new fiber lines infrastructure.
According to Swen König, one of the researchers on the project:
"The data transfer rate could be multiplied by setting or adapting the optical and electrical multiplexing techniques, i.e., by simultaneously transmitting multiple data streams, and by using multiple transmitting and receiving antennas. Hence, radio systems having a data rate of 1 terabit per second appear to be feasible".
